Rt Kamenjak

Rt Kamenjak is a rocky headland at the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula in Croatia, near the village of Premantura and south of the city of Pula. The cape is known for rugged limestone coastline, small coves and clear Adriatic waters and is protected as a coastal nature area.

Numerous pebble and rocky beaches and coves used for swimming and snorkeling, coastal trails and viewpoints, a small lighthouse at the tip, and fossilised dinosaur footprints preserved in coastal rock. Outdoor recreation such as hiking, snorkeling and short coastal boat trips are prominent visitor activities.

The area is managed to balance recreation with conservation of native flora and fauna and the coastal landscape. It is reached by road from Premantura and lies approximately south of Pula on the southern Istrian coast.

• Dinosaur footprints: Fossilised dinosaur footprints occur on the cape and are a notable palaeontological feature of the coastline.
• Access and activities: The headland is managed as a protected coastal nature area and is reached from the village of Premantura; water activities and short hikes are common visitor uses.

What to See #

• Dinosaur tracksites: A shoreline site with visible fossilised dinosaur footprints and trackways exposed at points along the coast of the cape.
• Lighthouse and coves: A small lighthouse at the tip of the headland and a series of rocky coves and pebble beaches that provide access for swimming, snorkeling and small-boat landings.
• Nature reserve and trails: Designated coastal nature reserve with marked trails and informal cycling routes linking the cape to the nearby village of Premantura.
