The Royal Palace of Aranjuez is a historic palace and garden complex in the town of Aranjuez, in the Community of Madrid, Spain, that served as a royal residence and riverside estate. The site is known for its formal gardens and for the palace’s role in royal ceremonial life.
The palace’s state apartments and the large formal gardens such as the Jardín del Príncipe and the Jardín de la Isla, which extend along the Tagus River and were laid out over several centuries. The designed landscape, avenues and water features form a cohesive cultural landscape connected to the palace.
Construction and successive expansions date from the late 16th century and continued under later Bourbon monarchs who remodelled the palace and grounds. The site evolved as both a working royal residence and a planned landscape for leisure and display.

Take Cercanías (Renfe) suburban trains C-3 / C-3a from Madrid (Atocha) direct to Aranjuez - the rail journey is about 40-50 minutes. From Aranjuez station it’s an easy 10-15 minute walk (about 1 km) to the Royal Palace and its gardens. By car the palace is south of Madrid off the A-4 (Autovía del Sur), approximately 45-50 minutes’ drive (around 45-50 km) from central Madrid.
