The Royal Chapel of Granada (Capilla Real) is a 16th-century funerary chapel in Granada, Andalusia, that serves as the burial place of Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon. It was erected by the Catholic Monarchs in the early 1500s.
The chapel houses the intricately carved tombs of the Catholic Monarchs and displays liturgical furnishings and royal funerary art. It is adjacent to Granada Cathedral and forms part of the historic core of Granada’s ecclesiastical architecture.
Commissioned by Isabella and Ferdinand after the completion of the Reconquista in 1492, the chapel was built in the early 16th century as a dynastic mausoleum and has retained its primary function as a royal burial site.
Located in central Granada next to the Cathedral, the chapel sits in the historic district close to the old city centre and major visitor routes.
