The Royal Building of Mafra is a large 18th-century royal complex near the town of Mafra in the Lisbon District of Portugal that includes a palace, a basilica, a Franciscan convent, formal gardens and a surrounding royal hunting park (Tapada). It was created as an integrated royal and religious ensemble during the reign of King João V.
Visitors can see the monumental palace volumes and the twin-towered basilica at the complex’s heart, alongside monastic buildings and planned gardens. The Tapada extends as a wooded parkland around the complex and historically functioned as a royal hunting ground.
