Rowa Islands
Islands Remote coral islands in Vanuatu, uninhabited atolls
Low coral atolls in northern Vanuatu, the Rowa Islands attract reef divers, snorkelers and birdwatchers; commercial boats and charters bring visitors to sand cays and shallow lagoons for day trips.
Rowa Islands are a small group of low, coral sand cays and reef islets in Torba Province, part of the Banks Islands in northern Vanuatu. They are uninhabited and notable for their shallow lagoon, sand flats and surrounding coral reef.
The islets form a compact reef system with sandy beaches and clear water that attract snorkelling and small-boat visits from neighbouring islands; there are no settlements or services on the cays. Wildlife commonly encountered includes reef fish and seabirds that use the cays for roosting and feeding.
The islands have traditionally been used intermittently by people from nearby inhabited islands for fishing and temporary camps but contain no permanent villages. They sit within the Banks Islands group of Torba Province in the northern part of the Vanuatu archipelago.
- Access: There are no visitor facilities on the islands; access requires a private boat or a charter from nearby inhabited islands and conditions can be affected by weather and tide.
