Rota is an island municipality in the Northern Mariana Islands, a commonwealth of the United States in the western Pacific Ocean. The island is known for its beaches, coral reefs and a small number of coastal villages.

Visitors come for snorkeling and diving, quiet beaches, and World War II relics and traces in the landscape. The island has a dispersed, low-density settlement pattern with a principal village at Songsong on the southwest coast.

Rota has historical links to Spanish, German and Japanese administration before becoming part of the United States-administered Northern Mariana Islands; today it is one of the chain’s populated islands with local services concentrated in the main villages.

Geographically Rota lies in the Mariana archipelago north of Guam and south of Saipan within the central Pacific Ocean.

Rota is served by regular inter-island flights from Saipan (check current schedules with local carriers); there is also occasional ferry service between the Northern Mariana Islands when available. On arrival at Rota you can hire a taxi or rent a car - the island is small and most destinations are reachable within a short drive (tens of minutes) across the main island roads.
