Romano-Germanic Museum

The Romano-Germanic Museum in Cologne is the city’s main archaeological museum for the Roman period and presents finds from the ancient city of Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium. It is sited near Cologne Cathedral and displays artifacts recovered during urban excavations.

The collections grew from archaeological work in Cologne’s postwar rebuilding and from systematic excavations of Roman houses, baths and burials; the museum was established to conserve and interpret those finds for the public. Ongoing excavations in the city continue to feed new material and research.
