Tips for Visiting Roman Castles #
- Visit the towns of the Castelli Romani in the late afternoon for cooler temperatures and strong sunset views over the volcanic lakes (especially from Castel Gandolfo over Lake Albano).
- Use regional trains to Frascati from Rome and local buses or short taxis to reach smaller towns-public transport links are frequent to the main towns, then explore on foot to find quieter streets and viewpoints.
- Focus on one or two towns per visit (for example Frascati plus Castel Gandolfo) rather than trying to see the whole Castelli area in a day; that way you can eat at a local osteria and explore historic centres at an unhurried pace.
