Rocamadour is a small pilgrimage village built on a cliff in the Lot department and is reached primarily by road. By car use the A20 autoroute and then local departmental roads to the village; there is public parking near the upper and lower entrances and the site is explored on foot. There is a regional rail service to Rocamadour‑Padirac/Gourdon area-arriving passengers typically continue to the village by local bus, shuttle or taxi.
Tips for Visiting Rocamadour #
- Arrive in Rocamadour as soon as the village opens, before coach tours and day visitors arrive, to enjoy the cliffside sanctuary and narrow streets with far fewer people.
- Walk the pilgrimage stairway and then continue to the Belvedere viewpoint across the gorge for the classic panorama of the village clinging to the cliff - many visitors remain inside the village and miss that vantage point.
- If you plan to visit the sanctuaries and chapels, check opening times in advance and schedule early or late visits; several chapels have limited hours and can be crowded during the middle of the day.
