Redland City is a local government area in southeast Queensland, Australia, on the coast of Moreton Bay about 25 km southeast of Brisbane. It covers mainland coastal suburbs and nearby bay islands and functions as both a residential and coastal recreation region.

The area contains island beaches, coastal wetlands and boating routes, with islands such as North Stradbroke (Minjerribah), Russell, Macleay and Lamb offering beaches, walking tracks and freshwater lakes on some islands. Mainland foreshore parks and boat ramps provide access for fishing, kayaking and birdwatching.

The islands and coastal plains are part of the traditional lands of the Quandamooka people, and the modern local government administers urban services, island transport links and conservation areas. The landscape has been shaped by settlement, transport links to Brisbane and conservation of bay habitats.

The city sits along the western shore of Moreton Bay, with Cleveland acting as the primary mainland access point to the islands; the area extends from near the southern suburbs of the Brisbane metropolitan area out into the bay and surrounding island groups.

  • Ferry access: Ferries to the largest island depart from the Cleveland ferry terminal and form the main public access route to the offshore islands.
  • Landscape mix: The area combines suburban coastal communities with protected Moreton Bay wetlands and island national park areas, so expect both urban services and natural reserves.

What to See #

  • Main islands: The council area includes mainland suburbs along Moreton Bay and several offshore islands such as North Stradbroke, Russell, Macleay and Lamb, each with beaches, coastal wetlands and small settlements.
  • Cleveland ferry terminal: Cleveland serves as the principal mainland gateway with ferry and boat services linking to the bay islands and coastal foreshore parks.
