Rábida Island

Rábida Island is a small island in the Galápagos archipelago, Ecuador, noted for its reddish volcanic sand and cliffs and its saline lagoon. It is an official visitor site within the Galápagos National Park and is popular on cruise itineraries.

Short, guided shore visits allow visitors to walk a marked trail to the red beach and a central lagoon where flamingos and waders are often seen; the rocky shoreline and calm bays are common snorkeling spots with sea lions and reef fish. The island’s compact visitor circuit typically takes one to two hours.

Rábida grew from volcanic activity and has been part of the Galápagos conservation programme since the national park’s establishment. It has long been recognised for its unique red soils and as a breeding and feeding area for seabirds and marine mammals.

The island lies in the central Galápagos group and is commonly visited from liveaboard cruise boats that operate between the main inhabited islands such as Santa Cruz and Isabela.
