The island contains small villages, community facilities and areas of coconut and agricultural land; commercial tourism is limited compared with Fiji’s main resort areas. Local life on Rabi centers on community governance and subsistence and small-scale commercial activities.
Geographically, Rabi lies north of Fiji’s main islands and is accessible by boat from larger nearby islands and ports in the Northern Division. The island’s population and infrastructure reflect its village-based settlement pattern rather than large-scale tourist development.
- Banaban community: The island is primarily inhabited by the Banaban community, descendants of people relocated from Banaba (Ocean Island) in the central Pacific; local culture and governance reflect that history.
