Quinta Normal Park

Quinta Normal Park is a major urban park and cultural precinct in the western sector of central Santiago, Chile, dating from the mid-19th century. It functions as a green lung for the city and as a campus for several national museums and cultural institutions.

The park features broad promenades, formal lawns, a central pond and tree-lined avenues used for walking, cycling, and weekend leisure. It is home to multiple museums and exhibition venues that draw both residents and visitors for science, history and culture.

Originally established in the 19th century as an experimental and public garden, the grounds evolved into a municipal park and museum district. Over time institutions were built on the park’s perimeter and within its grounds, making it one of Santiago’s principal cultural and recreational spaces.

Quinta Normal Park sits west of Santiago’s central business district in the Quinta Normal commune, readily reached by metro and urban transport. The park is surrounded by dense urban neighbourhoods and acts as a prominent green space in the metropolitan area.
