How to Get to Qenko #
Qenko (Q’enqo) is a short trip from central Cusco - the site lies roughly 3 km north of the Plaza de Armas. From downtown Cusco take a taxi or one of the local colectivos/minibuses heading toward Sacsayhuamán; the drive is about 10 minutes and from the Sacsayhuamán parking area it’s a 10-15 minute walk along the paved archaeological paths to Qenqo. If you prefer to walk from the historic center, expect a steep uphill walk of roughly 30-45 minutes.
Tips for Visiting Qenko #
- Visit Qenqo early in the morning as part of the Sacsayhuamán / archaeological circuit to avoid the mid-day tour rush and get quieter time inside the carved chambers.
- Enter using the main Cusco archaeological sites loop (buy the Boleto Turístico in advance) so you don't need to pay separate cover at the gate and can combine Qenqo with nearby Sacsayhuamán and Tambomachay in one visit.
- Spend a few extra minutes in the carved amphitheater and the zigzag channels-many groups breeze past these rock-cut ceremonial features without noticing the subterranean chamber and carved altars that are the site's primary interest.
