Puyehue Lake is a freshwater lake in the Andean foothills of southern Chile, situated near the Puyehue volcanic complex. It is an important local center for mountain recreation and thermal tourism.
The lake and its shoreline are used for hiking, angling and access to nearby thermal baths and mountain resorts. Several road access points and trailheads provide routes into adjacent forested slopes and the nearby ski area on Antillanca.
The landscape around the lake has been influenced by volcanism from the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcanic complex; eruptions in the area have periodically affected the shoreline and local infrastructure. The lake basin and surrounding terrain have also been developed for tourism and outdoor recreation over the 20th and 21st centuries.
The lake sits in the Andean foothills of southern Chile, east of the coastal lowlands and within the drainage area associated with the Puyehue volcanic zone. It is served by regional roads linking to larger towns and national routes in southern Chile.
- Hot springs: A number of hot-spring resorts and public baths lie on or near its shores and are a major draw for visitors year-round.
