Prizren Fortress is a hilltop fortification overlooking the historic town of Prizren in southern Kosovo. Its surviving walls and terraces form a prominent viewpoint above the old town.
The site consists of stone ramparts and terraced defensive walls that run along the crest of the hill above Prizren; short trails connect viewpoints and lookout platforms. The fortress is chiefly visited for panoramic views across the town, the old stone houses and mosques, and the surrounding wooded slopes.
The site has been fortified in multiple periods, with archaeological and historical layers from Byzantine, medieval and Ottoman eras; the visible walls and towers reflect extensive rebuilding and reuse over many centuries. The fortress has served defensive and administrative roles through the region’s changing rulers.
The ruins occupy a steep hill immediately north of Prizren’s old town centre, close to the Bistrica river; it is reached by a short climb from the central streets and is a dominant feature in the town skyline.
