The lake offers open-water views framed by rugged, low-lying mountains and steppe. Road access in the area is limited and travel through this part of Patagonia is commonly done by long regional routes.
The basin and shores are products of glacial activity rather than recent human construction. The lake functions as part of the broader Patagonian hydrological network.
Geographically it lies in western Santa Cruz Province near the border with Chile in southern Patagonia, at approximately 47.49°S, 71.83°W.
