Porta Tiburtina

Where Via Tiburtina meets the old city wall, Porta Tiburtina preserves a Roman arch and aqueduct fragments; visitors come to study inscriptions and explore eastern Rome’s ancient infrastructure.

Erected as part of the Aurelian Walls around 271-275 AD, the gate has been modified at different historical moments while preserving its role as an identifiable approach to the city. Its fabric shows both original Roman work and later restorations.
Located on Rome’s northeastern side where the Via Tiburtina met the city; it is reached from central Rome and nearby urban streets.

Porta Tiburtina is located near Piazzale del Verano and is easily reached by bus from Termini; it’s also walkable from the San Lorenzo neighborhood (about 15-20 minutes).
