Pontigny lies in the Yonne department of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, about 25 km southwest of Auxerre. By car take the D965 from Auxerre toward Tonnerre, then follow local signage to Pontigny village; parking is adjacent to the abbey. From Auxerre, regional buses run to nearby small towns but service is infrequent-driving or a taxi from Auxerre (about 30-40 minutes) is the most practical option.
