Monument Prominent Belgrade monument symbolizing victory at Kalemegdan
Bronze ‘The Victor’ monument atop Belgrade’s Kalemegdan Park; visitors come for panoramic views over the confluence of the Sava and Danube and photographs of the fortress grounds.
Pobednik, commonly called The Victor, is a bronze monument standing on the Belgrade Fortress overlooking the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers in Belgrade. It is one of the city’s most recognisable monuments and a focal point on the fortress promontory.
The statue depicts a standing warrior figure with symbolic attributes and occupies a high pedestal that provides panoramic views over the river and the city’s waterfront. It functions as both a commemorative monument and a viewpoint for visitors.
Created by sculptor Ivan Meštrović, the monument dates from the interwar period and was installed on the fortress to commemorate Serbian military efforts; it has been a landmark of Belgrade’s riverside skyline since its erection. Over time it has become an emblematic symbol used in city imagery and tourism.
The monument sits within the Belgrade Fortress (Kalemegdan) park complex in central Belgrade, on a terrace above the rivers where the Sava meets the Danube; the site is easily reached from the historic city centre.
- Viewpoint: Sits on a high terrace of the Belgrade Fortress and overlooks the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, making it a prominent city viewpoint.
