Place Pigalle

Place Pigalle is a small public square in the Pigalle district on the right bank of Paris, situated at the foot of Montmartre and adjacent to the long-established entertainment and nightlife area. The square and surrounding streets are part of a quarter known for music venues, nightlife and historic cabaret culture.

The area around the square contains bars, clubs, music venues and shops catering to both locals and tourists, and it is often visited as part of an evening tour of Paris nightlife. The proximity to Montmartre and the Moulin Rouge makes it a convenient base for exploring late-19th and 20th-century Parisian entertainment history.

During daytime the district offers cafes, small shops and a sense of the neighbourhoods layered cultural history without the evening crowds. The square itself functions primarily as a traffic and pedestrian junction rather than a major park or monument.

Pigalle developed in the 19th century into a centre of nightlife, music and popular entertainment, expanding through the 20th century as cabarets, theatres and jazz clubs established the areas reputation. Place Pigalle sits on the border of Pariss 9th and 18th arrondissements, at the foot of the Montmartre hill and within walking distance of the Moulin Rouge and other Montmartre attractions.
