Place Denfert-Rochereau is a public square in Paris’s 14th arrondissement, named after Colonel Pierre Denfert-Rochereau and known for its transport connections and historic urban features.

The square is notable for the official entrance to the Paris Catacombs and for the surviving toll pavilions of the Barrière d’Enfer, part of the Wall of the Farmers-General. It functions as a busy transport interchange with metro and RER services and several bus lines.

The square took its current name in the 19th century in honour of Denfert-Rochereau, who became a national figure after the 1870 defence of Belfort. The late 18th-century tollhouses survive as urban landmarks and the Catacombs entrance has served as the public access to the ossuary and underground galleries since the 19th century.

Place Denfert-Rochereau sits in southern Paris near the Montparnasse quarter and the Jardin du Luxembourg, within the 14th arrondissement and acting as a gateway between inner-city Paris and its southern neighbourhoods.
