Pietra di Bismantova

The Pietra di Bismantova is an isolated, flat-topped limestone rock formation in the northern Apennines of Emilia-Romagna, Italy, known for its sheer vertical walls and small summit plateau. It is a prominent local landmark and an established destination for walkers and climbers.

Visitors ascend paths to reach the plateau, which offers views across the surrounding hills, and climbers use the vertical faces that rise abruptly from the base. The formation’s compact, table-like summit and steep flanks make it geologically distinct from nearby terrain.

The Pietra is a natural limestone feature formed by differential erosion of surrounding rock and has been used and visited since historic times for both practical and recreational reasons.

It lies near the town of Castelnovo ne’ Monti in the province of Reggio Emilia, within the outer Apennine range and close to the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano park area.
