The central fountain, the Fontana delle Naiadi, and the surrounding arcaded buildings create the characteristic curved enclosure of the piazza. On the northern side stands the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, which incorporates part of the Baths of Diocletian and was adapted in the 16th century.
The piazza occupies a prominent position on the northeastern edge of Rome’s historic centre and is a common arrival point for visitors using the main rail station.
