Piața Sfatului

Piața Sfatului is the historic central square of Brașov’s old town, long used as the city’s main market and civic space. It is surrounded by historic façades and the former council house, forming the focal point of the medieval urban core.

The open square contains cafés, restaurants, and small shops that occupy the ground floors of traditional buildings, and it is frequently used for markets and public events. Architectural styles around the square date mainly from the 15th to 18th centuries.

The square originated as the town’s market and municipal centre in the medieval period and has retained its civic role through successive restorations and urban changes. The Council House at the square’s centre is a prominent historic building with a tower.

Situated in Brașov’s historic centre at the foot of Tâmpa Mountain, the square is a short walk from other major attractions such as the Black Church and the city fortifications.
