Petras is an archaeological site on the northern coast of eastern Crete associated with the Minoan civilization of the Bronze Age. The site contains the remains of a Minoan town and associated architecture situated on a coastal hill.
Excavated remains include domestic and administrative buildings and a small palace-like complex, with pottery and architectural fragments typical of Minoan Crete. The site sits on an exposed coastal promontory and offers views over the surrounding sea and shoreline.
Archaeological work has shown that the settlement was occupied during the Minoan Bronze Age and functioned as a regional center with maritime connections. Finds from the site have contributed to understanding regional variation within Minoan Crete.

How to Get to Petras #
Petras lies on Crete’s northeastern end near villages in the Lassithi region. The nearest larger centers are Sitia and Agios Nikolaos; traveling by car from these towns is the easiest option. Local roads are narrow - allow extra time for the final stretches.
