Petit Ballon is a mountain in the Vosges range of northeastern France, located in Grand Est. Its summit rises to about 1,272 metres and it is part of the Ballons des Vosges area of rounded peaks known locally as ballons.
The peak is popular for short ridge hikes and panoramic viewpoints that look east over the Alsace plain and the Rhine valley and west along the Vosges crest toward the higher Ballon peaks. Trails are well marked and the summit is reachable from several trailheads within a few kilometres of the ridge.
The mountain is a natural feature rather than a built site; it has long been used for grazing and seasonal mountain pasture and has been included in regional conservation planning for the Vosges. Over time trails and informal shelters have been added to support recreational use.
Petit Ballon sits on the Vosges ridge in Haut-Rhin, roughly on the western side of the Alsace plain, west of Colmar. The landscape around it is a mix of forested slopes and open pastures with valley towns at the foot of the range.

How to Get to Petit Ballon #
Petit Ballon is reached from the Alsace side via the D430 and local trailheads in the Munster valley. The nearest towns with rail connections are Colmar and Mulhouse; from there rent a car or take regional buses toward Munster and parking/starting points for the hike.

- If climbing from the Munster valley, take the east approach for a steady ascent and fewer crowds
- Bring windproof clothing-summit exposure can be surprisingly cold even in summer
