How to Get to Perama#
Perama is a short coastal suburb of Piraeus, so most international arrivals go via Athens International Airport (ATH) and transit into Piraeus. From Piraeus it’s a quick local hop into Perama by bus or taxi.
Athens Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH): Athens International is the main airport for Perama. From ATH you can take the X96 airport express bus to Piraeus (single-ride ticket ~€6; journey ~60-90 minutes depending on traffic); from Piraeus a short local bus or taxi will get you into Perama (10-20 minutes).
Alternatively (regional): You can also fly into nearby islands or smaller airports seasonally, then reach Perama via Piraeus connections - but Athens (ATH) is the practical year-round choice.
Train: The Athens suburban railway / metro connects the airport and central Athens; to reach Piraeus you can take Metro Line 3 from the airport to Monastiraki and change to Line 1 to Piraeus (journey ~60-75 minutes). From Piraeus station it’s a short taxi or local bus ride to Perama.
Bus: Intercity and local buses serve Piraeus and Perama directly from central Athens and the port area. The X96 airport bus runs to Piraeus; local KTEL/OSY routes and municipal buses connect Perama with neighbouring districts - travel times depend on traffic but are generally 15-30 minutes from central Piraeus.
How to Get Around Perama#
The best way into Perama is via Piraeus: Athens (ATH) → Piraeus by airport bus or metro, then a short local bus or taxi. For island connections use Piraeus port and then transfer on land into Perama.
- Metro + local bus (€1.20-€10 (depending on legs; airport to central about €10 by rail/metro combos)) - Using Athens Metro (Line 3 plus a transfer to Line 1) to Piraeus then a local bus or short taxi to Perama is reliable and avoids surface traffic where possible. Expect about 60-90 minutes from the airport with luggage and transfers. Metro tickets must be validated at barriers.
- Airport express bus (X96) (≈€6) - The X96 bus runs direct between ATH and Piraeus; it’s the simplest public option if you have heavy luggage and want to reach the port area quickly. Buses run frequently and tickets are inexpensive; check schedules for late-night services.
- Taxi (€8-20) - A taxi from central Piraeus to Perama is a short ride (10-20 minutes). Taxis are convenient for groups or when public services are limited; expect higher cost during night or heavy traffic. Agree a meter fare or price beforehand if necessary.
- Ferry (from Piraeus) (Varies by ferry route) - Perama is adjacent to Piraeus ferry terminals; while ferries don’t serve Perama itself, the port’s ferry services are useful if you’re transferring to islands. From Piraeus terminals a short land transfer reaches Perama.
- Walking - Perama is compact enough for walking between local points once you arrive; however cliffside and industrial areas mean comfortable shoes and caution are needed along some streets.
