Pedraforca is a distinctive forked mountain in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees notable for its double summit and central saddle. The massif’s highest point reaches 2,506 metres and it is a landmark of the Berguedà area in Catalonia.

Hiking and scrambling are the main activities, with established routes that gain the ridge and cross the Enforcadura saddle connecting the two arms of the peak. The landscape includes karst terrain and alpine meadows and is popular with day hikers and mountaineers.

The mountain lies within the Pre-Pyrenees near the villages of Gósol and Saldes and is managed within regional conservation frameworks for mountain landscapes.

  • Elevation and recognition: The mountain's highest point is 2,506 metres and it is one of the most recognizable peaks in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees.
  • Routes and access: Popular summer routes use trailheads near the villages of Gósol and Saldes and often involve steep paths and exposed sections on the ridges.

What to See #

  • Pollegó Superior: The highest summit of the massif, known as Pollegó Superior, reaches 2,506 metres and defines the mountain's jagged profile.
  • Enforcadura: The low saddle called the Enforcadura separates the two main arms of the mountain and is the most common route crossing between the peaks.
  • Pollegó Inferior: The secondary ridge and lower summit that form the other arm of the forked profile, frequently visited on combined traverses of the massif.

Tips for Visiting Pedraforca #

  • Approach from Saldes for the classic ascent; the village is a logical base and has mountain guides.
  • The Forat (the hole) is the mountain's signature feature-expect scrambling and exposure on the upper ridges, not a simple hike.
