Parc de la Mar
Park Seafront park beneath Palma's cathedral, reflecting pool
Seafront esplanade in Palma de Mallorca between the city and the sea, Parc de la Mar features an artificial lake, promenades and direct views of the cathedral (La Seu).
Parc de la Mar is a waterfront park and artificial lake located immediately south of Palma de Mallorca’s Cathedral (La Seu). It was created to provide open space and to frame views between the old city and the sea.
A flat water basin edged by promenades offers uninterrupted views of the cathedral’s southern facade and seating for visitors and photographers. The park functions as an urban forecourt between the old town and the waterfront.
The site was developed in the 20th century as part of urban works to create a continuous public space between the city and the sea and to reveal views of the cathedral. It replaced earlier quays and created the present lakeside promenade.
Parc de la Mar sits directly adjacent to Palma’s old town in Majorca, immediately below the cathedral and close to the seafront.
- Cathedral viewpoint: A shallow artificial lake directly in front of Palma's Cathedral provides framed views of the cathedral facade.
How to Get to Parc de la Mar #
Parc de la Mar is immediately south of Palma’s cathedral, a five‑minute walk from Plaça de Cort. From Palma Intermodal Station it is about a 15-20 minute walk along Carrer de Jaume II and Passeig del Born; several local buses stop nearby along the Passeig Marítim.
Tips for Visiting Parc de la Mar #
- Walk the promenade at golden hour for the best views of La Seu (Palma Cathedral) reflecting in the water.
- Bring a light jacket-the sea breeze off the Bay of Palma can be cooler than inland.
- Look for local fishermen along the seawall in the morning; they still use small, timeworn techniques.
Best Time to Visit Parc de la Mar #
Best in spring or autumn for comfortable weather and good light on the cathedral; evenings in summer are also rewarding.
