The garden was laid out in the late 19th century by Heinrich Siesmayer and opened to the public in 1871. It has since been expanded and modernized with new display houses and visitor facilities while retaining its original layout as a botanical and recreational space.

Situated in Frankfurt’s Westend district west of the central business district, the Palmengarten lies within easy reach of the city centre and local public transport.

  • Best time to visit: Spring and early summer are the best times to see the widest range of blooms in the outdoor beds and the rose garden.

What to See #

  • Tropical glasshouses: Large heated glasshouses that recreate tropical and subtropical environments, including a prominent Palm House with tall palms and other warm-climate species.
  • Outdoor gardens and beds: Outdoor gardens and themed beds covering formal flower displays, rose gardens and a small alpine area, arranged across the park's lawns and paths.
  • Visitor facilities: Seasonal exhibition spaces and visitor facilities including a café and event areas used for concerts and horticultural displays.
