Palazzo Reale

The Palazzo Reale in Turin was the principal residence of the House of Savoy and is a major historic palace in Piedmont. Its origins date to the 16th century and it was expanded and refashioned through the 17th and 18th centuries as a royal seat.

The preserved royal apartments, state rooms, the historic Armeria Reale (Royal Armoury) and an adjacent formal garden. Many rooms display period furnishings, decorative ceilings and collections related to Savoyard rule.

The palace served as the administrative and residential centre for the Savoy dynasty until the 19th century and later became a public museum complex administered to preserve the royal collections. It forms part of the wider museum and cultural district in central Turin.

The Palazzo Reale stands in central Turin close to the city’s main boulevards and the Royal Square, within easy walking distance of other historic Savoy residences and museums.
