Palazzo Colonna

Palazzo Colonna is a large, privately owned palazzo in central Rome that has been the seat of the Colonna family for many centuries. The complex combines medieval and Baroque elements and contains a significant private art collection.

Inside are grand state rooms and frescoed reception halls alongside a picture gallery that displays paintings, sculptures and decorative arts assembled by the family over several generations. Public access is limited relative to state museums; much of the collection is shown on timed or guided visits.

The building grew by phases from the medieval period through the Renaissance and Baroque eras, with successive Colonna family members commissioning expansions and interior decoration. The palace remained a private urban residence and cultural repository throughout its history.

The palazzo stands in central Rome within walking distance of several major landmarks in the historic core, including Piazza Venezia and nearby churches and piazzas.
