Palazzo Brera

Palazzo Brera is a historic cultural complex in Milan’s Brera district that brings together the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Accademia di Belle Arti, the Biblioteca Braidense and the Brera Astronomical Observatory. The site is one of Milan’s principal centres for art, scholarship and science.

The buildings developed from a monastic and collegiate site into a civic cultural complex over several centuries; many of its current cultural institutions were formalized under late 18th- and early 19th-century reforms that gathered collections and created public galleries. The ensemble reflects Milan’s transformation into a centre for public art and scholarship.

Located in the Brera neighbourhood of central Milan, the palazzo sits north of the city’s main cathedral area and is an easy walk from the Duomo and other central landmarks.
