Palazzo Borghese

Palazzo Borghese is a large aristocratic palace in central Rome historically associated with the Borghese family. The building dates mainly from the late 16th and 17th centuries and occupies a block adjacent to the Piazza Borghese and the historic centre.

The palazzo is notable for its substantial courtyard, articulated facade and internal courtyard gardens that reflect its role as a principal family residence and urban palace. Interior spaces historically contained family apartments, reception rooms and private collections, many of which were reworked during the Baroque period.

The palace was developed by the Borghese dynasty over several generations and remained a private aristocratic seat; parts of the building have been used for institutional or private purposes in later centuries. It is primarily an exterior-view landmark for most visitors as much of the complex remains in private use.

The palazzo sits within Rome’s Centro Storico near important streets and squares in the rione Campo Marzio, within walking distance of central monuments and transport links.
