Tips for Visiting Ötscher #
- Visit Ötscher in late spring for peak waterfall flows or in early autumn for foliage colours; the main trailheads around Wienerbruck and Lackenhof give the most direct access to the Ötschergräben gorge and summit routes.
- If you want quieter walking, avoid sunny weekends when the Ötschergräben (gorge) trail fills with day-trippers - go on a weekday or start very early to have the gorge mostly to yourself.
- Don't limit yourself to the gorge: take one of the longer ridge routes from the summit area to reach the broad alpine plateau and panoramic viewpoints that many day visitors miss.
- Park at the marked trailhead car parks in Wienerbruck or Lackenhof rather than informal roadside spots; these give straightforward access to signed routes and information boards.
