The Ortler Alps are a mountain group of the Eastern Alps located in northern Italy, straddling the regions of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol and Lombardy. The range contains high glaciated peaks and classic alpine terrain used for mountaineering and high-altitude recreation.
The dominant summit is the Ortler (Ortles), which reaches 3,905 metres and is the principal climbing objective in the group. The range includes glaciers and steep ridges, with established alpine routes and huts supporting climbers and ski tourers in summer and spring.
Over time the area has been traversed and mapped for alpinism and remains an important section of the Italian high Alps for both recreational and professional mountaineering. Local valleys and mountain passes provide access points from several valleys in South Tyrol and Trentino.
