Fishing boats sit offshore while cargo ships line the horizon. Visitors pass through Si Racha for seafood markets, seaside sunsets, and the jumping-off point to Koh Si Chang. It’s a working coastal town more than a resort - known for its namesake chili sauce, fresh catches, and a slower rhythm near the water.
Situated on the Gulf of Thailand’s east coast is Sri Racha (pronounced see rah-cha), a destination that forms the municipality of the district of the same name. It’s a town that enjoys a seaside location and while scenic beaches are somewhat absent, it’s just a short drive to Bang Saen (just over six miles away) where some pleasant sandy strips and resort-style amenities await.
Sri Racha is best known perhaps for its seafood cuisine, with most dishes being served with a spicy chili sauce known as nam phrik si racha. There are plenty of venues at which to sample the fishy fare, though don’t expect picturesque waterfront settings to accompany your dining, as the town suffers a distinct deficit of these.
The Sriracha Tiger Zoo is among the town’s biggest attractions and is sure to captivate anyone with an interest in wildlife and in particular visitors with a liking for big cats.
Getting There#
There are public buses to Sri Racha from both Ekamai and Mor Chit bus stations in Bangkok. From Suvarnabhumi Airport, there’s a free shuttle service from the terminal to the airport bus station, from where buses traveling to various destinations in Chonburi, including Sri Racha, can be caught.
