Samut Songkhram Travel Guide

Samut Songkhram is a coastal town located at the mouth of the Mae Klong River, just 74kms southwest of Bangkok. It is home to prime agricultural land due to the fertile ground and is one of Thailand’s largest producers of fruit and vegetables.

It is not often visited by tourists as there are many towns closer to Bangkok with more attractions, but it is a great town to visit to really get the feel of rural life in Thailand. It is a beautiful part of the country and visiting the town is a good chance to escape the hustle and bustle of life in Bangkok.

Visitors will find several floating markets, an ancient monastery, memorial gardens, orchards and excellent local restaurants. There are also a few accommodation options for those who wish to stay overnight.

Getting There#

There are regular buses from Bangkok to Samut Songkhram, with journeys taking about 1 hour. There are public buses and private mini buses available and it is also possible to take a taxi although this will of course be expensive. Bangkok’s international airport is the nearest gateway.
