Obarenes Mountains

The Obarenes Mountains (Sierra de los Obarenes) are a range of low to medium-elevation mountains in northern Spain, lying on the boundary between the La Rioja region and neighbouring provinces. The range is characterised by rocky ridges, wooded slopes and river valleys that descend toward the Ebro basin.

Routes through the range include local trails and rural roads used for hiking and nature observation; the area provides viewpoints over the Ebro valley and the surrounding agricultural landscape. The Obarenes form part of the transitional landscape between the Ebro basin and the higher interior mountains.

Historically the ridges have served as local natural boundaries and the slopes support mixed forest and agricultural land use; the area is used for outdoor recreation and small-scale farming.

Geographically the Obarenes lie in northern Spain within La Rioja and adjacent provinces, forming part of the uplands that border the Ebro valley.
