Nullarbor National Park is a protected area in South Australia on the Nullarbor Plain, conserving its characteristic treeless limestone plain and coastal escarpments. It preserves large tracts of arid karst terrain and the coastal cliffs that meet the Southern Ocean.

Broad, flat expanses of the Nullarbor Plain and dramatic coastal cliffs where the plain drops to the sea; much of the park is remote and visited for scenic drives, photography, and natural history. The coastline contains extensive limestone formations and caves rather than dense vegetation.

European and Aboriginal histories have long been associated with the Nullarbor region; the area contains sites of cultural significance to Indigenous Australian groups and has been traversed by explorers and pastoralists. Over time parts of the plain have been set aside for conservation to protect its unique geology and ecosystems.

The park sits along South Australia’s coastal edge on the Nullarbor Plain, adjoining the Great Australian Bight. It is remote from major population centers and lies across wide distances of arid landscape between small settlements and highway routes.

  • Landscape: The park protects part of the Nullarbor Plain, a vast, largely treeless karst landscape made of limestone bedrock and extensive cave systems.
  • Access: Remote location with limited facilities and long distances between towns makes self-sufficiency essential for visitors.

What to See #

  • Bunda Cliffs: A continuous line of coastal limestone cliffs facing the Great Australian Bight, forming the park's most dramatic shoreline feature.
