Novo Mesto is reached most easily via Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU); travellers then continue by intercity bus or, less frequently, by regional train to Novo Mesto. The town has its own bus station (Avtobusna postaja Novo mesto) and a railway station, but buses are usually faster and run more often.

By Air

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU): The main gateway for Novo Mesto is Ljubljana Airport near Brnik. From the terminal take the airport shuttle (Alpetour / Arriva) to Ljubljana city centre - expect about 30 minutes and a one‑way fare around €5-€6 - then change to an intercity bus to Novo Mesto (see Bus below).

Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport (ZAG): Zagreb is a common alternative, especially for low‑cost flights. From the airport take the shuttle to Zagreb bus/rail station (≈30 min, ~HRK 30-40 / €4-5) then intercity buses run to Novo Mesto; the onward bus leg typically takes about 1.5-2 hours and fares are usually in the €7-€12 range.

By Train & Bus

Train: Novo mesto has a railway station (Novo mesto railway station) but rail links are less frequent than buses. Regional trains run to/from Ljubljana and other Slovenian towns; when available expect around 1-1.5 hours and regional fares typically in the low € single‑digit range.

Bus: The main arrival point is Avtobusna postaja Novo mesto (Novo Mesto bus station). Frequent intercity buses connect Novo Mesto with Ljubljana (operators include Nomago and Arriva) and with other Slovenian towns; journey time from Ljubljana is about 45-75 minutes depending on service and costs are commonly around €5-€8.

Nightlife in Novo Mesto #

Nightlife in Novo Mesto is low-key, focused on wine bars, a handful of pubs and occasional live-music evenings. The centre quiets down relatively early, so late-night clubbing options are limited. Expect a relaxed, local atmosphere rather than a party scene; most evenings are best spent in a bar or tavern.

Shopping in Novo Mesto #

Shopping is modest and practical: small independent shops, supermarkets and a few local boutiques around the main square. For a wider range of stores you’ll need to visit a larger centre or neighbouring towns; look for local foods and wine in small specialist shops.
