Niedzica Castle

Niedzica Castle (also known as Dunajec Castle) is a fortified medieval complex in southern Poland, situated on a rocky spur overlooking the Dunajec River and the Czorsztyn reservoir. The castle dates back to the late medieval period and is a local historic landmark in the Pieniny foothills.

Internally the site features defensive walls, a prominent keep and a lower courtyard now used for museum displays; the castle is a popular viewpoint with panoramic vistas across the reservoir toward the Pieniny range. Seasonal boat services on the reservoir and nearby walking routes are common ways visitors combine the castle with the local lakeside scenery.

The stronghold was constructed in the late Middle Ages as a border fortification and later passed through regional noble hands, with reconstructions and adaptations over subsequent centuries converting parts of the complex into residential and administrative spaces. Today it functions as a museum and cultural site interpreting its multi-century history.

The castle sits above Niedzica village in Lesser Poland Voivodeship near the Polish-Slovak border, immediately adjacent to the Czorsztyn reservoir and within sight of the Pieniny Mountains.
