Nguna is a volcanic island in Shefa Province, Vanuatu, located close to the larger island of Efate. It is a populated island valued for its reefs, coastal villages and land-based trails.
The island offers coastal snorkeling and diving on fringing reefs, village-to-village walking trails and short hikes inland to viewpoints. Day trips from Efate are common, usually by small boat from the Port Vila area.
Nguna is of volcanic origin and has long been inhabited by local communities; traditional village life and customary land management continue to shape the island’s settlement pattern. In recent decades local conservation initiatives have focused on reef protection.
Nguna lies off the northwest coast of Efate in central Vanuatu and is reached by short boat crossings from Efate’s population centers.
