An archaeological landscape in the Cauca Department of southwestern Colombia noted for its groups of deep, rock-cut subterranean tombs or hypogea associated with pre-Columbian societies.
The defining features are large underground funerary chambers accessed by vertical shafts, often with interior masonry and painted decoration. These complexes include funerary architecture, carved stairways and carved or built internal divisions that illustrate regional mortuary practices.
The hypogea were created by indigenous communities during the pre-Hispanic period and reflect local social and ritual practices related to burial and ancestor veneration. Archaeological study during the 20th century documented the scale and decorative schemes of the tomb complexes.
Situated in the central Andes of Colombia within the department of Cauca, the park is located in upland terrain near rural communities and is reached by regional roads and trails.
