Muskauer Park / Park Mużakowski
Historical Site Transboundary 19th-century landscape park spanning Poland and Germany
Muskauer Park straddles the Poland-Germany border, a 19th-century designed landscape by Prince Pückler with terraces, lakes and promenades; visitors walk, cycle and study early European landscape-design principles in situ.
A transboundary 19th-century landscaped park straddling the Poland-Germany border in Lubusz Voivodeship, created by Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau and recognised for its intact English-style design and parkland layout.
The estate combines a riverside palace complex with broad promenades, specimen tree plantings and sculpted water features. The layout links terraces, bridges and lakes along the River Neisse and is experienced as a continuous designed landscape across both sides of the border. The park includes an arboretum with a variety of introduced and native tree species and formal planting schemes associated with the palace.
The principal design work began in the early 19th century under Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau; later 19th-century landscape gardeners continued and refined planting and axial layouts. The estate was divided by the post-World War II border but has since been managed cooperatively across Poland and Germany.
Situated along the River Neisse on the Poland-Germany frontier, immediately adjacent to the towns of Łęknica (Poland) and Bad Muskau (Germany) in western Poland. The park occupies riverine lowlands and gently rolling parkland on both banks of the Neisse.
- Best view: Best vantage point is the castle terrace and tower, which give panoramic views over the designed landscape and the Neisse river.
- Access points: The park is accessed from the towns of Łęknica (Poland) and Bad Muskau (Germany), with paths and signposted routes on both sides of the border.
What to See #
- Bad Muskau Castle / Palace: A riverside palace complex and associated designed landscape centred on the 19th-century **Bad Muskau Castle**, with formal terraces, avenues, specimen tree plantings and water features laid out as an English-style landscape park.
- Arboretum and riverside landscape: Extensive arboretum and specimen plantings occupying mixed parkland along the River Neisse, with promenades, bridges and viewing points on both sides of the Poland-Germany border.
- Neisse river landscape: The River Neisse corridor that structures the park and its sequence of lakes, ponds and designed water courses linking the upper and lower parts of the estate.

- Cross the river at the historic bridges and use the marked circular routes (or rent a bicycle in Bad Muskau) to cover the park's wide extent without retracing steps-walking-only routes can be long and fragmented.
- Visit around golden hour for the park's best light and to avoid daytime tour‑group concentrations; also take time to explore lesser‑visited peripheral lawns and viewpoints that most day‑trippers miss.
