Museo Egizio

The Museo Egizio in Turin is a museum devoted exclusively to Egyptian archaeology and culture, founded in 1824. It holds one of the largest and most important collections of Egyptian antiquities outside of Egypt and is a leading center for research and conservation.

Gallery sequences present statuary, funerary objects, coffins, inscriptions and everyday objects spanning prehistoric Egypt through the Pharaonic period, with interpretive displays on funerary practice, religion and daily life. The museum’s holdings include well-preserved artifacts and a significant number of inscribed objects and reliefs, displayed across several floors with thematic organization.

The collection began in the early 19th century and expanded through royal acquisitions, archaeological campaigns and later purchases and donations; this formation explains the museum’s early foundation and its extensive early-period material. In recent decades the Museo Egizio has undergone renovation and curatorial reorganization to modernize its exhibitions and research infrastructure.
