Musala is the highest peak in the Rila range and the entire Balkan Peninsula, with an elevation of 2,925 metres. It is a prominent mountaineering and hiking objective in Bulgaria.
Main attractions are the summit views, marked trails across alpine terrain and nearby mountain huts and refuges used by walkers. Routes start from several access points including the Borovets ski area to the north.
The peak sits within Rila National Park and is part of the region’s glacial landscape of cirques and high lakes. Conditions at the summit are alpine; summer hiking is the main visitor season while winter ascents are technical.
Musala is located in western Rila within Sofia Province and forms the high point of the range.

How to Get to Musala #
Musala lies inside Rila National Park, about 100-150 km from Sofia. Visitors typically drive to Borovets resort and use the gondola and chairlift toward Yastrebets, then follow marked trails to the Musala Hut and the summit; regional buses to Borovets run from Sofia in summer.
