Muntii Macin

Muntii Macin, commonly called the Măcin Mountains, are a low, ancient mountain range in Tulcea County in northeastern Romania and part of the Dobruja region. They are notable for their relatively low, rounded ridges and a landscape that contrasts with the higher Carpathian ranges.

The mountains support steppe and forest habitats and a mix of grassland and scrub vegetation. The area is used for grazing and local agriculture and contains hiking routes and natural areas visited for outdoor recreation and wildlife watching.

Geologically the range is among Romania’s older massifs and has been shaped by long-term erosion to produce low relief hills and isolated ridges. The Măcin area is included in protected zones that aim to conserve its characteristic flora, fauna and geological features.

The Măcin Mountains sit in Tulcea County in the Dobruja region, close to the lower Danube and the Danube Delta area, with nearby towns such as Măcin providing access to the range.
