Mudam (Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean) is Luxembourg’s national museum of modern and contemporary art, located on the Kirchberg plateau in Luxembourg City. The museum building was designed by architect I. M. Pei and opened in 2006.

Collections and temporary exhibitions cover international contemporary art as well as work by Luxembourg artists, presented across several gallery spaces and rotating shows. The site includes an outdoor sculpture garden and terraces that connect the museum to the adjacent historic Fort Thüngen and the surrounding landscape.

Mudam was established to create a dedicated contemporary art venue for Luxembourg and to host temporary exhibitions, acquisitions and public programmes. The museum has become a central cultural institution for contemporary visual arts in the country.

The museum sits on the Kirchberg plateau in the north-eastern part of Luxembourg City, near the European institutions and within walking distance of the city centre via pedestrian bridges over the Pétrusse valley.

How to Get to Mudam #

Located on the Kirchberg plateau in Luxembourg City. From the city center take tram Line T1 to the ‘Kirchberg/European Institutions’ stops and walk (10-15 minutes), or bus lines 8, 16, 23, 29 stop nearby. By car follow signs for ‘Mudam / Philharmonie’ and use paid parking on Kirchberg.

Check the museum's website for late-night openings (often Thursdays) which can be quieter.
Don't skip the Mudam's sculpture park outside - some installations are best experienced up close on clear days.
Combine with a walk in the adjacent Pétrusse valley for a complete afternoon.
